Staff Members’ Children in the Classroom
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish clear professional boundaries when staff members have their own child or a family member’s child enrolled . This policy ensures consistency, fairness, and minimal disruption to daily operations while maintaining a safe, professional, and equitable environment for all children, families, and staff.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees who have a child or a family member’s child enrolled in the program, as well as any staff members working events, trainings, or assignments on behalf of the organization.
Policy
Staff members with an enrolled child are required to follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Parent Handbook. Employment status does not provide exemptions or special accommodations from established school policies.
During scheduled work hours, staff members are expected to remain focused on their assigned duties and must not be interrupted for routine matters involving their child. If a situation arises that requires parent notification for a non-emergency incident, the Director will contact the secondary parent or authorized emergency contact listed in the child’s enrollment file.
In the event of an emergency, standard emergency procedures will be followed in accordance with school policy.
When staff members are working outside events, trainings, or other assignments on behalf of Young Innovators Academies, they must secure alternative childcare arrangements for their child during those working hours unless prior approval has been granted by the Director.
Procedures

Staff members must ensure their child’s enrollment records include a secondary parent or authorized emergency contact.

Directors will handle all non-emergency parent communications during staff work hours.

Staff members may not leave their assigned duties to address routine matters involving their child.

Requests for exceptions related to outside events must be submitted to the Director in advance and approved in writing.
Accountability
Failure to adhere to this policy may result in corrective action in accordance with the Employee Handbook. Consistent enforcement of this policy supports professional standards, minimizes operational disruptions, and ensures equitable treatment for all families enrolled at Young Innovators Academies.
