Emergency Procedure

Purpose

This SOP outlines the required actions for all teaching staff during an emergency or tragedy to ensure the safety, supervision, and proper release of all children in our care.


Primary Responsibility

  • You are responsible for your assigned class at all times.

  • Do not leave your children under any circumstancesĀ until every child has been safely released to an authorized adult, regardless of shift end time.


Emergency Safe Zone Locations

  • Follow the designated safe zone communicated by administration.

  • Relocate only if instructed or if remaining in place presents a safety risk.


Emergency Contacts

  • Call 911 immediately

  • Non-Emergency DispatchĀ (as directed by administration or emergency responders)


911 Call Protocol

When calling 911, clearly report the following information:

  • YourĀ exact locationĀ (state that you are at the designated safe zone and provide the address)

  • TheĀ number of children and adultsĀ at your location

  • AnyĀ known injuries

  • Description of theĀ assailant, if applicable:

    • Race, gender, clothing, colors, and style

    • Physical features

    • Weapons, masks, backpacks, or other identifying items

  • Whether you haveĀ heard explosions or loud disturbances

Remain calm and follow all instructions given by emergency responders.


Child Supervision Requirements

  • MaintainĀ continuous supervisionĀ of your class at all times

  • Keep childrenĀ together, calm, and reassured

  • Use aĀ quiet voice and calming strategies

  • Never leave children unattended


Parent Communication Protocol

Before releasing any child:

  1. Call all parents and/or legal guardians

  2. Confirm the child’sĀ safetyĀ and yourĀ exact location

  3. DoĀ notĀ provide detailed information about the incident

  4. UseĀ direct phone calls only

ā—Ā No texting or group messages during the emergency response phase.


Child Release Procedure

A child may only be released afterĀ allĀ of the following have been verified:

  • Authorized pickup person is listed on theĀ Teacher Information Card

  • Physical photo ID or driver’s licenseĀ is verified in person

  • The name matches the authorized pickup list exactly


Staff Expectations

Lead and Assistant Teachers must:

  • Remain with the children untilĀ the last child is picked up

  • Stay calm, alert, and professional

  • Follow all emergency instructions exactly

  • Understand thatĀ shift end times do not apply during emergencies


Phone Use During an Emergency

Phone use is limited to:

  • Calling 911

  • Calling parents or legal guardians

DoĀ notĀ use phones for texting, social media, or updates.
You may briefly notify a loved oneĀ only afterĀ all required calls have been completed and children are secure.

The safety of the children is the highest priority.
