Hair/Body Infestations & Rashes SOP

Purpose:
To ensure the health and safety of all children and staff by responding promptly and effectively to any signs of lice, contagious rashes, or skin/body infestations.

Procedure:

1. Initial Identification

   • If a teacher observes lice, nits, or an unusual rash on a child, the child must be brought immediately to the front office for evaluation by management.

2. Evaluation by Management

   • Management will inspect the child discreetly.

   • If a potential infestation or contagious rash is confirmed:

     • The parent/guardian will be contacted to pick up the child immediately.

     • The child may not return until the condition is resolved:

       • Lice/Infestation: Child must be nit-free and cleared by management upon return.

       • Rash: A doctor’s note must be provided, stating the rash is not contagious before the child can return.

3. Classroom Screening & Sanitation

   • If the child has a confirmed case of lice or a contagious rash:

     • All children in the classroom will be screened by management.

     • The affected classroom will be stripped of soft materials, thoroughly washed down, and sanitized.

4. Parent Communication

   • A same-day notification flyer will be sent home with all children in the affected class.

   • The flyer will provide:

     • Information on the type of infestation or rash (e.g., head lice, ringworm).

     • Prevention tips and protocols.

     • Return-to-school requirements (if applicable).

Important Notes:

• Staff must maintain confidentiality and handle all situations with sensitivity.

• All findings and parent communication must be documented.
