Attendance & Punctuality Policy

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear expectations for employee attendance and punctuality. Consistent staffing is essential to maintaining a safe, high-quality learning environment for children and to ensuring smooth daily operations at Young Innovators Academies.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees of Young Innovators Academies, including full-time, part-time, substitute, and support staff.

3. Policy Statement

Young Innovators Academies expects all employees to report to work on time and as scheduled. Regular attendance and punctuality are critical to providing consistency, stability, and appropriate supervision in each classroom.

Because classrooms are staffed with minimal personnel to meet licensing and safety requirements, lateness and absences place a significant burden on other staff members and disrupt the learning environment. Excessive lateness, absenteeism, or tardiness will not be tolerated.

4. Attendance Expectations

Employees are expected to:

  • Arrive on time for all scheduled shifts

  • Remain present for the full duration of their assigned work hours

  • Maintain consistent attendance to support classroom stability and routines

5. Reporting Absences or Lateness

If an absence or late arrival is unavoidable, the employee must notify the Director as early as possible. Early notification allows administration to make alternative staffing arrangements and maintain appropriate supervision.

Failure to properly notify the Director may result in disciplinary action.

6. Progressive Discipline for Attendance Violations

Attendance issues are tracked on a rolling monthly basis and addressed as follows:

  • Three (3) instances of lateness, absence, or tardiness within one month:

    • Verbal warning issued

  • Three (3) additional instances following the verbal warning:

    • Written warning issued

  • Any further instances following a written warning:

    • Disciplinary action at the Director’s discretion, which may include suspension or termination of employment

7. Enforcement

Continued failure to meet attendance expectations may result in suspension and/or dismissal. All attendance-related discipline will be handled in accordance with the school’s Discipline Policy.

8. Reference

Employees should refer to the Discipline Policy outlined elsewhere in the Employee Handbook for additional details regarding corrective action procedures
