🎯 Purpose

To guide new employees and their supervisors through a structured onboarding and evaluation process during the 90-day probationary period, ensuring alignment with Young Innovators Academy’s mission, values, and performance standards.


 

📘 Overview of the 90-Day Probation Period

Objective:

Assess the new employee’s:

  • Alignment with school culture

  • Professional behavior and communication

  • Capacity to meet job performance expectations

Duration:

90 calendar days from the start date

Evaluation Milestones:

  • 30-Day Check-In

  • 60-Day Review

  • 90-Day Final Evaluation

Each phase includes documented feedback using the Probationary Evaluation Form and goal tracking.

  1. Attendance and Punctuality

    • Arrives on time and maintains regular attendance

    • Adheres to shift schedules and breaks

  2. Job Knowledge and Skill Application

    • Understands assigned duties and curriculum expectations

    • Demonstrates accuracy and competence in daily tasks

  3. Teamwork and Collaboration

    • Cooperates with co-workers, mentor teachers, and administrators

    • Responds well to feedback and contributes positively to classroom culture

  4. Professionalism and Communication

    • Maintains a professional demeanor with staff, children, and families

    • Uses appropriate language and tone in interactions

    • Engages respectfully with all team members

  5. Adherence to Policies and Procedures

    • Follows all safety, behavior management, and supervision guidelines

    • Completes documentation accurately and on time

    • Respects confidentiality, uniform, and hygiene expectations


 

📆 Training Timeline & Activities

Week 1: Orientation & Onboarding

Day 1–5 Activities:

  • Welcome session with Director

  • Overview of Staff Handbook and Employee Expectations

  • Tour of school, classroom assignments, emergency exits

  • Training on licensing standards, ratios, child safety, and mandatory reporting

  • Review of daily schedule and classroom transitions

  • Introduction to mentor/advisor

  • Shadowing with lead teacher

  • Access to online training modules (safety, curriculum, communication tools)

  • Begin activity observation journal

  • Complete Policies & Procedures Acknowledgment


 

Week 2–3: Initial Training and Integration

  • Ongoing classroom shadowing

  • Introduction to Brightwheel or internal child documentation system

  • Participation in team meetings

  • Practice implementing one group activity (under supervision)

  • Feedback sessions with Onboarding Coordinator

  • Begin implementing transition routines independently

  • Focus on routines, toileting, handwashing, health checks


 

30-Day Check-In: Initial Evaluation

  • Review of attendance and punctuality

  • Self-assessment and mentor feedback

  • Identify strengths and areas needing improvement

  • Set 30-day growth goals

  • Supervisor completes 30-Day Evaluation Form

  • Document and review with employee


 

Week 4–8: Skill Building & Responsibility Shift

  • Begin leading circle time, story time, and center rotation

  • Plan and implement at least 1 activity using approved curriculum format

  • Continue development of behavior management and communication strategies

  • Weekly check-ins with mentor or coordinator

  • Introduce parent engagement expectations (drop-off/pick-up)

  • Support center events, classroom prep, and team collaboration


 

60-Day Check-In: Midpoint Evaluation

  • Reassess all 5 performance areas

  • Focus on progress made and remaining gaps

  • Discuss role-specific responsibilities

  • Determine readiness for greater independence

  • Supervisor completes 60-Day Evaluation Form

  • Action plan for final 30 days established


 

Week 9–12: Independent Work & Final Review Prep

  • Full integration into daily classroom role

  • Demonstrate initiative in curriculum, classroom upkeep, and communication

  • Execute a full lesson plan or small group project

  • Continue journaling observations or documentation

  • Meet emergency preparedness requirements (first aid, drills)


 

90-Day Final Evaluation

  • Supervisor completes 90-Day Probationary Evaluation Form

  • Conduct performance review meeting

  • Discuss next steps:

    • Confirm employment

    • Extend probation with new goals

    • Discontinue employment (if applicable)

Form must be signed and filed in employee record.
