Classroom boards

To ensure classroom boards are consistently updated, visually appealing, and serve as an effective communication and educational tool for parents, children, and staff.

Scope:

This SOP applies to all classroom teachers and assistant teachers responsible for maintaining bulletin boards and parent boards in all Young Innovators Academy classrooms.

Types of Boards:

  1. Parent Board (Mandatory)

    • Located near the classroom entrance.

    • Used for parent communication and documentation display.

  2. Curriculum/Instructional Board

    • Displays current theme, learning objectives, and children’s work.

  3. Interactive/Child-Focused Boards

    • May include visual schedules, classroom rules, word walls, or charts.

Board Requirements:

1. Parent Communication Board

  • Must Include:

    • Weekly lesson plan (posted by Friday evening for the upcoming week)

    • Monthly newsletter (posted by the 1st of the month)

    • Daily schedule

    • Weekly classroom updates or announcements

    • Teacher names and photos

    • Licensing/Accreditation notices (if required)

  • Updated: Weekly

  • Monitored by: Assistant Director

2. Curriculum & Learning Board

  • Must Include:

    • Current theme or unit

    • Learning objectives tied to developmental domains

    • Student work samples (rotated weekly) Art, STEM. Project based Learning///

    • Labels or captions explaining the activity and skills targeted

    • Photos of children engaged in learning activities

  • Updated: At least bi-weekly

  • Monitored by: Curriculum Coordinator

3. Child-Focused Boards (Optional/Encouraged)

  • Examples:

    • Behavior charts

    • Feelings wheel

    • Classroom jobs

    • Calendar/time/weather charts

  • Updated: As needed

  • Purpose: Foster child engagement and classroom culture

Design Guidelines:

  • Use clear labels and professional-looking print (typed or neatly handwritten).

  • Ensure boards are neat, colorful, and child-friendly.

  • Avoid clutter—follow a consistent layout or theme.

  • Use children’s names and photos to personalize displays.

  • Ensure displays are at eye-level for intended audience (children or adults).

Review educational content on boards for alignment with learning goals

Compliance Monitoring:

  • Classroom checks are conducted weekly.

  • Incomplete or outdated boards will result in a documented corrective action.

  • Exceptional boards may be highlighted in staff meetings or newsletters.
