Interactive SOP Training: Learn It. Live It. Lead It.

OPENING (5 MIN)

Facilitator says:

“Welcome everyone. Today is not a sit-and-get training.
You will move. You will laugh. You will teach.
And by the end of today, you won’t just know the SOPs — you’ll be able to use them.”

Pause.

“Because here’s the truth:
Completing a training does not equal understanding.
Understanding only happens when we practice, explain, and teach.”

STEP 1: TEAM ASSIGNMENT (AS PARTICIPANTS ENTER)

Facilitator says:

“As you came in, you were randomly assigned to a team.
This was intentional — leadership requires flexibility, collaboration, and trust.”

“Each team represents a core value that shows up in great educators and strong leaders.”

STEP 2: EXPLAIN TEAM PURPOSES

Facilitator says:

“Let’s review what each team represents. These are not just team names — they are leadership behaviors.”

The Heart – Kindness and Understanding

“This team represents empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.
The Heart reminds us that policies only work when people feel seen, supported, and safe.”

The Hands – Creativity and Action

“This team represents doing, building, and creating.
The Hands remind us that leadership is not theory — it’s action.”

The Head – Growth and Learning

“This team represents curiosity, problem-solving, and resilience.
The Head reminds us that great educators are always learning.”

The Voice – Philanthropy and Advocacy

“This team represents communication, leadership influence, and service.
The Voice reminds us that if we don’t speak up, standards slip.”

STEP 3: TEAM HUDDLE (3 MIN)

Facilitator says:

“Take the next 2–3 minutes with your team.
Read your team purpose and discuss this question:
How does this value show up in strong leadership or great teaching?”

“Choose one person to share your thoughts.”

(After huddle)

Facilitator prompts each team:

“Team ___, what does your value look like in action?”

Acknowledge responses with brief reinforcement:

“Exactly.”
“That’s leadership.”
“That’s how culture is built.”

STEP 4: INTRODUCE THE GAME SYSTEM

Facilitator says:

“Now let’s talk about how today will work.”

Hold up buckets.

“We have two buckets:

  • One bucket contains games

  • One bucket contains SOPs”

“Each round, a team will:

  1. Draw a game

  2. Draw an SOP

  3. Complete the challenge as a team”

“This is friendly competition — but the real goal is mastery, not perfection.”

STEP 5: EXPLAIN THE GAMES

🎵 MUSICAL CHAIRS — SOP SEQUENCING

Facilitator says:

“In Musical Chairs, the music plays and you move.
When the music stops, the participant without a chair is today’s ‘winner.’”

“That winner will draw an SOP and must explain the steps in the correct order.”

“Your team can help you once — because leaders support each other, but we still expect ownership.”

“This game tests sequencing, clarity, and confidence.”

🎭 CHARADES — SOP IN ACTION

Facilitator says:

“In Charades, your team will draw an SOP and act it out — no talking.”

“Your team must guess the SOP and then explain:

  • What it is

  • When it’s used

  • Why it matters”

“If you can act it out, you understand it.”

🎤 BROADWAY SHOW — SOP THROUGH SONG

Facilitator says (smiling):

“Yes — this one is real.”

“Your team will draw an SOP and create a short song, chant, or jingle about it.”

“Your song must include:

  • The purpose of the SOP

  • At least three key steps”

“If others can sing it back, that’s retention.”

STEP 6: POINT SYSTEM

Facilitator says:

“Teams earn points for:

  • Accuracy

  • Teamwork

  • Creativity

  • Clear explanation”

“Extra points for engagement, leadership, and helping others learn.”

DURING THE GAME (ONGOING SCRIPT)

Use phrases like:

  • “Talk it out as a team.”

  • “Teach us like we’re brand new.”

  • “Where do people usually get this step wrong?”

  • “Why does this SOP exist?”

Reinforce learning:

“That explanation was clear.”
“Notice how they tied it back to safety.”
“That’s exactly how a director should train.”

FINAL ROUND & ANNOUNCEMENT

Facilitator says:

“We’re heading into our final round.
Remember — this isn’t about winning a game.”

Pause.

“This is about proving that you can teach what you expect others to follow.”

Announce winner.

CLOSING (5 MIN)

Facilitator says:

“Today proved something important.”

“If a teacher can:

  • Say it

  • Act it

  • Explain it

  • Teach it

  • Sing it…”

Pause.

“They know it.”

“This is how onboarding sticks.
This is how violations decrease.
This is how culture is protected.”

Final line:

“If learning is fun, retention is automatic.”
