SOP: Hair, Body Infestations, and Rashes
Purpose
The purpose of this SOP is to protect the health and safety of children, families, and staff by preventing the spread of contagious conditions, including hair infestations, body infestations, and unidentified or contagious rashes within YIA Schools.
Scope
This procedure applies to all children, staff members, administrators, substitutes, and volunteers at YIA Schools.
Policy Statement
YIA Schools maintains a safe and healthy environment by monitoring, identifying, and responding appropriately to hair infestations, body infestations, and rashes that may pose a risk of transmission. Prompt action, proper documentation, and clear communication are required to minimize the spread of contagious conditions.
Identification and Observation
If a staff member observes signs of a hair infestation (such as lice or nits), body infestation (such as scabies), or an unexplained or potentially contagious rash on a child, the staff member must immediately notify the Director or Assistant Director. Staff members must not diagnose conditions but should report visible symptoms or concerns promptly.
Child Exclusion and Supervision
If the Director or Assistant Director determines that the condition may be contagious, the child will be discreetly separated from the group and supervised in a designated area until the parent or authorized pickup person arrives. The child must be picked up as soon as possible. Children with confirmed infestations or contagious rashes may not remain in care until treatment has been completed in accordance with school and licensing guidelines.
Parent Notification
The Director or Assistant Director will notify the childās parent or guardian immediately upon identification of a suspected or confirmed infestation or rash. Parents will be provided with information regarding required treatment, exclusion timelines, and conditions for return to care. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times.
Return to Care Requirements
A child may return to YIA Schools only after appropriate treatment has been completed and, when required, documentation from a licensed healthcare provider has been provided. The Director or Assistant Director will determine readiness for return based on licensing standards and school policy.
Staff Health and Reporting
Staff members who suspect they may have a hair infestation, body infestation, or contagious rash must report the condition to the Director immediately and may be excluded from work until cleared to return. Staff must follow all treatment and documentation requirements prior to returning to work.
Cleaning and Sanitation
Following any confirmed or suspected infestation
