This SOP serves as a complete operational guide for Directors to successfully manage daily opening procedures, classroom transitions, staffing coverage, cleaning expectations, and closing procedures.

The goal is to ensure:

1. Daily Operational Overview

A successful school day follows a consistent operational flow:

2. Morning Opening Procedures

Primary Opening Classrooms

The following rooms serve as the designated primary opening rooms:

  • Infant Room
  • Toddler Room
  • 3’s Classroom —
  • VPK Classroom —
  • Reception —

Director Responsibilities

The Director must:

  • Ensure all opening staff arrive on time.
  • Verify ratios immediately as children arrive.
  • Walk all classrooms within the first 30 minutes.
  • Confirm that opening rooms are prepared and safe.
  • Support any staffing gaps immediately.
  • Communicate any attendance, staffing, or ratio concerns to the team.
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times.

Teacher Responsibilities

Opening teachers must:

  • Set up learning centers.
  • Complete classroom safety checks.
  • Prepare the sign-in area.
  • Greet children and families warmly.
  • Receive children calmly and professionally.
  • Keep accurate child counts.
  • Communicate important parent updates to the Director or assigned teacher.

3. Transition to Full Classrooms

Timeframe: 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM

During this time, additional staff arrive and children begin transitioning from opening rooms into their assigned classrooms.

By the end of this transition period:

  • Children should be in their assigned classrooms.
  • Ratios should be stabilized across all rooms.
  • Teachers should be in place.
  • Classrooms should begin their daily routines.
  • Opening rooms should be reorganized as needed.

Director Responsibilities

The Director must:

  • Monitor classroom counts.
  • Prevent overcrowding in any classroom.
  • Ensure children transition safely and calmly.
  • Confirm teachers are following the daily schedule.

  • Sanitizing high-touch surfaces
  • Cleaning and organizing toys

8. Staffing and Coverage Plan

  • Break coverage must be planned in advance.
  • Staff should not leave classrooms out of ratio.

  • Magaly supports Infant and Toddler break coverage.
  • Older classrooms use a “cover each other” model when appropriate.
  • The Director must monitor coverage and step in when needed.
