Curriculum implementation

At Young Innovators Academy, we implement a research-based curriculum framework built on Four Foundational Pillars: the heart, the head, the voice and the the hands.

All teachers are expected to implement the curriculum, adapting instruction to meet the individual developmental needs of each child. This is achieved through intentional lesson planning, ongoing assessment, small group instruction, and the cultivation of nurturing, responsive relationships.

1. Beginning-of-Year Assessments

Conduct initial developmental assessments within the first 30 days of enrollment using approved tools (e.g., ASQ, GOLD, anecdotal records).
Document each child’s developmental levels and learning goals.
Share assessment results with families during the first parent-teacher conference.
Use assessment data to inform lesson plans, classroom groupings, and individualized strategies.

2. Lesson Planning & Infusion of the Four Pillars

Submit weekly lesson plans to the Assistant Director by Fridays at 5 PM.
Ensure each lesson reflects the intentional integration of the Four Pillars:
- Design Thinking: Promote inquiry, experimentation, and collaboration.
- STEAM: Provide open-ended, hands-on experiences in one or more STEAM domains.
- Global Citizenship: Incorporate themes of kindness, cultural awareness, and social responsibility.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: Provide opportunities for leadership, goal-setting, and initiative.
Differentiate activities based on developmental assessments and individual needs.

3. Small Group Instruction

Facilitate daily small group activities focused on specific learning outcomes.
Adjust groupings frequently based on child assessment data and observation.
Assistant teachers may lead small groups under the direct supervision and guidance of the lead teacher.

4. Building Rapport with Children

Greet each child by name at arrival and departure.
Engage in meaningful, warm interactions throughout the day (e.g., mealtimes, play, transitions).
Use positive language, model empathy, and teach emotional regulation skills.
Track each child’s interests, learning style, and strengths to support personalized instruction.

5. Assistant Teacher Expectations

Collaborate with the lead teacher to carry out daily plans and classroom routines.
Actively engage with children during centers, lessons, and small group time.
Contribute to observation, documentation, and data collection.
Participate in planning discussions and provide feedback and suggestions.
Model professionalism, positive behavior, and respectful communication at all times.
Support the maintenance of a safe, organized, and enriching learning environment.

Documentation & Compliance

File lesson plans and weekly evaluations in the classroom binder and upload to the shared digital drive.
Document all assessment data in the school’s designated digital system.
Attend all required curriculum training sessions, coaching meetings, and professional development opportunities
