SOP: Cell Phone Use During Work Hours

1. Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of children by eliminating distractions caused by personal cell phone use during scheduled work hours. This policy reinforces professionalism, focus, and compliance with licensing and safety expectations.

2. Scope

This SOP applies to all employees, administrators, substitutes, volunteers, interns, and contractors while on duty or supervising children at Young Innovators Academies.

3. Policy Statement

Staff are prohibited from using personal cell phones during scheduled work hours. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Talking on the phone

  • Texting or messaging

  • Scrolling, browsing, or using social media

  • Wearing earbuds or headphones connected to personal devices

Personal cell phone use is not permitted while supervising children, engaging with families, or performing job-related responsibilities.

4. Approved Use

Cell phones may only be used under the following conditions:

  • During designated break times

  • In approved break areas

  • For emergency situations

  • For work-related purposes when explicitly authorized by administration

Any emergency-related phone use must be brief and reported to a supervisor as soon as possible.

5. Compliance and Enforcement

Failure to comply with this SOP is considered a safety and professionalism violation. Violations may result in corrective action, up to and including disciplinary measures, in accordance with company policy and applicable labor laws.

6. Responsibility

All staff members are responsible for adhering to this SOP. Directors and supervisors are responsible for monitoring compliance and addressing violations promptly and consistently.
