🛠️ Maintenance

  • Fence enclosing the play area is in good repair

  • Fence gate is able to be closed securely

  • Trash or animal waste is not present on the playground

  • Standing water emptied from all collection sources

  • No poison/dangerous plants (mushrooms, berries, thorn bushes)

  • No trip hazards or holes on the playground

 

🧸 Equipment

  • Sandbox raked before each use / covered when not in use

  • Shock-absorbing material under swings/climbing equipment (6–12 inches deep)

  • Fall surface raked back in high-traffic areas (under swings, slides)

  • Movable toys at least 6 ft away from stationary equipment

  • Rope/chain ladders anchored at both ends

  • Large climbers/swings securely anchored to the ground

  • No protruding bolts, rust, broken parts, or splinters

  • No broken toys on the playground

  • Broken or poorly functioning equipment is reported

  • Unsafe equipment is removed or marked off until repaired

 

🧑‍🏫 Supervision

  • Staff are positioned for full visibility and children are accounted for

  • Staff encourage safe play and use of equipment

  • Child/staff ratios are appropriate

  • Supplies brought to playground (first aid kit, tissue, water, garbage bag)

  • Children dressed appropriately for weather

  • Sunscreen applied/reapplied (with parent permission)
