🎯 Purpose

To ensure all classroom boards are consistently maintained to foster clear communication with families, support instructional goals, and create an engaging and organized learning environment for children.


 

📌 Scope

This SOP applies to all lead and assistant teachers responsible for maintaining classroom boards across all age groups at Young Innovators centers.


 

🛠️ Board Types & Requirements

1. Parent Communication Board

📍 Location: Near classroom entrance
📆 Update Frequency: Weekly
✅ Must Include:

  • Weekly Lesson Plan (posted by Friday evening for the following week)

  • Monthly Newsletter

  • Daily Classroom Schedule

  • Classroom Rules & Expectations

  • Required Licensing Documentation (e.g., ratios, emergency procedures)

  • Current Announcements or Upcoming Events


 

2. Curriculum & Instructional Board

📍 Location: Inside classroom, visible to children and adults
📆 Update Frequency: As themes and instruction change (at least bi-weekly)
✅ Must Include:

  • Current Theme or Topic

  • Learning Objectives or Skill Focus

  • Children’s Work Samples (with names and dates when appropriate)

  • Photos or documentation panels of recent activities

  • Interactive curriculum visuals (e.g., anchor charts, vocabulary words)


 

3. Interactive/Child-Focused Boards

📍 Location: Child-accessible areas throughout the classroom
📆 Update Frequency: As routines evolve or instruction progresses
✅ May Include:

  • Visual Daily Schedule

  • Word Walls or Letter of the Week

  • Behavior Management Charts

  • Self-Help or Routine Charts (e.g., handwashing steps, clean-up checklists)

  • Classroom Jobs or Helper Boards


 

✏️ Maintenance Guidelines

  • All boards must be neat, legible, and visually engaging.

  • Outdated materials must be removed promptly.

  • Rotate children’s work at least every two weeks to reflect current learning.

  • Avoid overcrowding; use clear headings and cohesive formatting.

  • Laminate or protect frequently reused materials to maintain cleanliness.


 

🔍 Monitoring & Accountability

  • Directors will check all classroom boards during weekly walkthroughs using the Classroom Walkthrough Checklist.

  • Classrooms not meeting board standards will receive follow-up coaching and support.

  • Teachers may be asked to update boards during planning time if out of compliance.

  • High-quality boards may be showcased as model examples during staff meetings or tours.

  • Boards reflect current instructional goals and classroom culture.

  • Families report feeling informed and engaged.

  • Children reference and use boards as part of daily routines.

  • Classrooms maintain a clean, updated, and professional appearance.
