Effective onboarding is critical to setting up new staff members for success. A well-structured onboarding process not only improves staff retention but ensures that employees understand expectations, policies, and the culture of the school. As a director, your leadership in this phase helps shape the new hire’s perception and engagement from day one.


 

✅ Step 1: Pre-Onboarding Preparation

Director Responsibilities Before First Day:

  • Review candidate credentials and background check results

  • Confirm start date, shift, and classroom assignment

  • Prepare welcome materials and staff handbook

  • Schedule new hire for required orientation and training sessions

  • Assign a classroom and a staff mentor

  • Prepare new hire paperwork packet

  • Notify teaching team of incoming staff member

  • Orientation Checklist
