SOP: Outside Food and Drink Policy
Purpose
To protect childrenâs health and safety, prevent allergic reactions, maintain sanitation standards, and ensure compliance with licensing and nutrition regulations.
Policy Statement
For health, safety, and allergy-prevention reasons, outside food and drinks are not permitted inside the school, except under specific, approved circumstances outlined below.
General Rule

All meals and snacks consumed at the school must be prepared or approved by the program.

Food brought from home may not be consumed or stored in classrooms unless explicitly authorized.
Exceptions (Allowed with Approval)
Outside food or drink may be permitted only in the following cases:

Medical or Dietary Accommodations

Food required due to documented medical conditions or allergies

Must be supported by a physicianâs note or official dietary plan

Food must be clearly labeled with the childâs name and date

Infant Feeding

Breast milk or formula provided by families

Must follow strict labeling, storage, and handling procedures

Special Events or Celebrations

Must be pre-approved by the Director

Store-bought only (no homemade items)

Drinks Policy

Children may bring water only, in approved spill-proof containers

Water bottles must be:

Clearly labeled with the childâs name

Cleaned daily

All other beverages are provided by the school
Parent Communication

Families are informed of this policy during enrollment

Staff should politely redirect families if outside food is brought unintentionally

Repeated violations should be documented and referred to administration
Staff Responsibilities

Monitor classrooms for unauthorized food or drinks

Enforce the policy consistently and professionally

Never remind or enforce selectively

Report allergy or safety concerns immediately to the Director
