Purpose of the Procedure “Prepare Before Your New Hire’s First Day”

The primary purpose of this procedure is to detail the necessary actions an employer or HR representative should take to ensure all preparations are completed before a new employee’s first day at an educational institution. A smooth onboarding process signifies a well-organized institution and can greatly impact the newcomer’s initial impression, as well as their subsequent adaptation and overall job satisfaction in the education sector.

Procure and Prepare Necessary Office Supplies

It’s important to equip the new hire with all the necessary office supplies they’ll need to carry out their tasks efficiently. This might include stationery, notebooks, tech devices, etc. Doing so ensures they have everything they need to hit the ground running.

Furnish Their Work Space

It is imperative to arrange a suitable work area for the new hire, depending on their role. This could be a classroom, an office, a cubicle, or even a lab station. The area should be clean, well-lit and properly equipped with necessary furniture and tools.

Notify Current Staff of the New Employee

On the first day of the job, the onboarding specialist will introduce the new hire to the rest of the school family.  Introducing the new hire fosters a sense of community and aids the integration of the new team member. Staff can prepare to welcome their new colleague, and it facilitates smoother interactions and collaboration from day one.

Prepare the Onboarding Schedule

Having a detailed induction plan affirms the organization’s professionalism. It provides the new hire with a clear structure, ensuring they are introduced to the school’s procedures, policies, culture, and key personnel at a manageable pace.

  • Prepare a clear and comprehensive schedule for the first week
  • The schedule should outline the tasks, meetings, and training sessions that will happen during the first seven days
  • Ensure to detail who the new hire will be meeting, what they need to bring or prepare, and what to expect from each session
  • Remember to include necessary breaks and free timeslots for processing and asking questions.
